Gathering files settings and programs long time
Maybe PC specs, or more importantly if you are upgrading or clean install with a full version. I'm doing an upgrade I know most people here would yell at me just for that, but I really don't want to go through re-installing over programs. I had the same issue with my mothers machine, it turned out to be the dvd drive. So if you're able to pop in another one of those to try, then see if that works. If not you can try installing it from within windows after copying the files to the hd.
Also, from within XP, make sure you scandisk or checkdisk, whatever it is called these days , to make sure that your filesystem is clean. Defragging might help, too. I read somewhere else that the "Gathering files" stage could be long depending on the speed of your DVD drive.
If so, then wouldn't "Gathering files" be reading your hard drive? Looking for any help. Search In. Again though after the first file is open and you keep that program open it will open files very quick Local or network. We have reinstalled, taken off add-ins, disabled hardware acceleration and the same issue persists. Again this happens with local files on the desktop, first time you try and open it takes a long time to open and then you can open other files that use that program, but once you close that file and all files associated with that program it again takes a long time to open even if it is the same file that was open.
Besides, based on your description, it seems if you just launch Word or Excel etc, it will opens fine. This only happens when you try to open an existing files if there is no file opening or Office application is not launched.
I would like to confirm whether this happens to a blank file. Does this happen since you install Office on your new PC? Or it began to appear after you perform some settings or changes to your computer? For example, install other software, update Windows operating system etc. If convenient, could you help record a video to show us how this behaves?
