Rds diesel install kit instructions
What do you mean quit working. No longer reads at all? I have noticed that on mine it takes several minutes for it to reread or reset when I refuel and that is with or without the aux tank. I plumbed in a fuel pump to mine and now have a switch in the cab that controls the pump; so I can refuel while traveling. The gauge takes a while to start moving but after 30 minutes I have a full tank again.
Try turning off the truck and restarting and see where the gauge reads then. Yep, I do have suggestions. If you turn on the tank and it continues to keep the OEM tank full, the computer doesn't like it. It does not know what is going on so it just says I quit. What you need to do is keep the aux tank off till you get down to about a quarter in the OEM tank.
Also, if you stop for fuel and leave the truck run it doesn't know that you filled it and will not show full. Both situations well self remedy in time or by turning the key off. Hey Nathan, Cookie is right. When that happens, I flip my gravity feed lever to off and when the computer starts to read a "drain" the gauge starts working again. I DO love the extra fuel capacity!!!!
When I say it quits working the gauge goes to empty.. I guess I will need to shut tank off to remedy this. How do I install a fuel pump to transfer the fuel on the go? ANd what type of pump will I need? Thanks for all your help.. Nathan, In the last year, my fuel gauge has quit working maybe 3 times The rare times the gauge shuts down i close the tank valve and gauge begins working later My TV is my daily driver I haven't considered the expense of the aux pump JMHO Lance.

I am open to any suggestions or "mistakes" to avoid. I will find out how "simple" the install is this weekend!! I just don't want what seems to be simple "do-it-youselfer" job to become a nightmare install.
I have a 40 gal. I have mine ratchet strapped in but I will thru bolt the new one I'm getting. I would pull out the fuel filler and cut it with a sawsall or hacksaw. I also used a solinoid valve as a shutoff so I can control it from the cab. I have the same tank in my I then drilled a 1" hole driverside in the bed for the drain tube. I used a sawssall to cut the neck closest to the tank and installed the "t" fitting.
It took about 3hrs to install. I didn't worry about grounding because diesel has a high flash point.
I am like Steve, I bolted the tank in and used a 1" hole saw for the fuel line. I used a rubber grommet in that hole to protect the rubber line. I don't know what truck you have but on my GMC I just used a utility knife to cut out a chunk of fuel tank filler line out and installed the T using the provided hose clamps.
Peace Dave. I did very much the same as the rest of you, but with one additional step I went to the local metal shop and had them cut 3 pieces of metal 4 inches square. I drilled a hole in the middle and used them as a large washer on the underside of the pickup bed so if there ever was a major shift if would not pull the bolts through the bed of the truck. So far everything with the RDS tank has worked well.
I did replace the manual gauge with one that has electric sender so I could monitor from the cab. Click to expand Rrloren Well-known member. I set my 37 gal. On my truck there are holes in the front panel about 1x2" with a plastic cover on them , I drilled a hole thru the plastic and slipped the hose thru it. Truck Racks. Exterior Truck Accessories. In the fuel tank world, a "Transfer Tank" is one that's used with a pump attached to fuel equipment or vehicles other than the vehicle carrying the tank. However, there's no rule against refueling the truck carrying the tank. The main thing is that the tank is not part of the truck's own fuel system.
Tanks that are integrated into the truck's factory fuel system are "Auxiliary Tanks". Gravity feed installation kits to complete the installation are available here.
